Portfolios

Description

A student math portfolio is a compilation of student work over time. It is an ongoing sample collection that provides evidence of student effort, progress, and achievement. Students and teachers work in collaboration to select the work that is placed into a portfolio.

Portfolios provide evidence that helps students to engage in learning content, reflect on what they have learned and set goals for the future. Portfolios can contain many subject areas divided into sections. They provide documentation that facilitates communication with guardians.

While portfolios can be used to document and display student work, they also enable teachers to use them to adapt teaching strategies when students demonstrate that they either are or are not learning what they are taught.
