Message from the Deputy Minister of Education
The Ministry of Education acknowledges and thanks Kevin Garinger, SaskMATH Outcome Owner, the SaskMATH reference committee, the working committee, and sub-committee members for their significant contributions to the development of the SaskMATH Resource.
The SaskMATH Resource represents more than two years of collaboration by representatives from 20 school divisions, the University of Saskatchewan, the Ministry of Education, and
Elder Albert Scott.
The SaskMATH mission is to support teachers and leaders of education in providing high quality and culturally relevant math instruction. A deep understanding of mathematics for both students and teachers will result in increased engagement and proficiency and will lead to improved outcomes for Saskatchewan students.
Notably, SaskMATH has embedded Indigenous Ways of Knowing throughout the resource. The SaskMATH resource is also informed by the Ministry of Education policy document, Inspiring Success: First Nations and Métis PreK-12 Education Policy , which envisions an education system that foundationally places Indigenous knowledge systems, cultures and languages within the structures, policies and curricula to ensure an equitable and inclusive system that benefits all learners.
Once again, congratulations and thank you to all of the contributors to this resource, which will no doubt leave a lasting imprint on teachers and students in Saskatchewan.
Donna Johnson, Deputy Minister of Education.
